As an evolvement of our renowned Global INKOMPASS program, this internship at PMI centres on self-discovery, allowing you to show what you are capable of within a business setting. You will be given a current real business project and the opportunity to provide input and suggest real business solutions to our senior leaders. We are looking for the future leaders of our organisation.

We will provide you with training and development that help build your professional, technical and personal skills to take your career to the next level.

We are looking for entrepreneurial, creative, curious interns to join the PMI team on a Full-Time basis for 6 weeks - Whether that be First-year students (studying a 3-year degree), Second-year students (studying a 4-year degree) or university students in their penultimate year.

This internship is open to students across all year levels at Australian universities.

We encourage students from any academic discipline to apply โ€“ you will have the opportunity to thrive in areas you never considered possible.

The Summer Internship runs for 6 weeks, full-time, from Early January 2026 - Mid February 2026 and is based in South Wharf, Melbourne.

If selected for the next stage, you will be invited to attend an in-person assessment centre* in Melbourne in Late September 2025.

*If you are based outside of Melbourne, you will be responsible to organise the travel to and from the assessment centre along with accommodation if required.

Great in rotation to try different things. Always given something to do - sometimes a big challenge which is great to get out of comfort zone.

I keep tabs on a few different processes, I have been facilitating the senior management meeting for a few months. This requires organising the meeting, creating a pre read, making sure people give me their content on time, sending a pre read, answering questions on the behalf of other people sometimes and following up on the changes that need to be made. Brands and new product launches have to go through many processes before they can come to market as well, many of which involve our teams in other countries. Many elements of this need to get done at different times to ensure the whole process can keep flowing. I learned how to use CLIPP and Bizcaps to manage our products. I have presented changes that are happening to senior management and dozens of people I hadn't met before (ftms, fzms).

Sometimes, there's a lot to work on. Different tasks, objectives, targets to hit. A lot of cross functional work.

Pros and cons of working at Philip Morris Australia

Pros

  • The people are easily the best part about working for PMI. The constant drive and determination amongst the workplace encourage everyone to work hard.

  • The pay is very good for someone first year out of university. The private health benefits are top class as well.

  • I really enjoy coming to work and being able to use my skills and knowledge to make a tangible impact on the business.

  • The office in South Wharf is a short walk from Southern Cross station and also has employee parking right in the city. We have really good access to shopping and food, and great views of the city.

  • Philip Morris provides constant opportunities to move laterally and vertically in the business whilst also opening doors overseas.

Cons

    • The downsides of the employer can be how late certain roles are communicated. The volatility of this market can mean that roles are extended at the last minute and role scopes changed within graduate roles if needed.

    • There is a stigma around working in an industry like tobacco, however, the majority of work activities I have been involved in donโ€™t necessarily surround the product.

    • Seeing ad campaigns showing all the things smoking does to your body can be hard. At times PMI can also be an intense place to work. The pressure and responsibility can be very high which can be stressful as a grad who always wants to do their best but often makes mistakes.

    • Rigid processes - lack of recognition - limited career progression (alignment of interest & business needs) and opportunity for movement.

    • Industry restrictions as it is a tobacco industry.
