Internship Experience by John Ric of Saint Michael’s College of Laguna

Gardenia Bakeries Philippines

One of the things I love most about my internship at Gardenia is the opportunity to step up as a mentor and leader for new interns.

One of the things I love most about my internship at Gardenia is the opportunity to step up as a mentor and leader for new interns. Every time a new intern joins, I am given the responsibility of guiding them through our daily tasks, ensuring they understand the sponsorship process and client transactions. This role has allowed me to not only refine my own skills but also build strong connections with my colleagues. Although some tasks can be demanding, like managing sponsorship forecasts and handling multiple client communications at once, seeing how my efforts contribute to the team’s efficiency reassures me that I am making an impact. The trust my managers and teammates place in me, along with the progress I see in myself, confirms that I am on the right path in my professional journey.

This internship has been a transformative experience that has significantly boosted my self-confidence in the workplace. Initially, I was hesitant and unsure of my abilities, especially when it came to handling sponsorship transactions and interacting with clients. However, as I took on more responsibilities—such as training new interns, preparing templates, and managing communications—I realized that I was capable of taking initiative and working independently. Having my mentor’s guidance and the support of my team has motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and trust in my own skills. Now, I feel more prepared to take on bigger challenges in the marketing field, knowing that I have developed strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities through this experience.
