Junior Assistant Manager - Operations Analyst I at RCBC
Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at Cavite State University
What's your job about?
My employer specializes in providing financial services, including savings accounts, loans, and investment options, to help individuals and businesses effectively manage their finances. Currently, the company is focused on enhancing digital banking solutions to improve customer experience and accessibility.
I have been in the banking industry for a year and five months. I graduated as one of the RCBC GOLD Management Trainees and am currently assigned to the ATM Settlement and Administration Department under the ATM Services Division. As a GOLD graduate, my role primarily focuses on projects aimed at improving departmental efficiency and performing Business-As-Usual (BAU) tasks to gain a comprehensive understanding of the department’s services.
In my time here, I have assisted my department with BAU tasks and spearheaded a project focused on increasing employee productivity. This involved conducting a time study to analyze and enhance the department’s current processes.
If you asked whether a teenager could understand what I do, my answer would be yes—with the caveat that they would first need to study and familiarize themselves with the corporate world. This profession demands hard work, consistency, a sense of urgency, effective time management, and a strong passion for excellence. These qualities are essential not only to perform well but also to thrive in the fast-paced and ever-evolving banking industry. My journey so far has been challenging yet rewarding, and I am motivated to continue contributing to the success of my organization.
What's your background?
During my childhood, I grew up in Cavite, where I was actively involved in school activities. I participated in various recreational events and took on leadership roles, particularly as a Girl Scout in our school. At a young age, I was exposed to a productive environment that helped me discover more about myself, especially in academics. This foundation paved the way for a meaningful yet challenging senior high school experience, which ultimately inspired me to pursue a degree in Industrial Engineering at Cavite State University-Main Campus.
Despite the demands of college life, I effectively managed my time for both personal and academic commitments. I became an active member of the Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers – Cavite State University Chapter. This organization deepened my understanding of Industrial Engineering, sparking my interest and honing my analytical and problem-solving skills.
After graduation, I worked as a Financial Engineer in a manufacturing company under the Accounting and Finance Department. My role involved analyzing financial data, preparing monthly reports, and presenting the company’s financial status to top management. This experience sharpened my ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain high performance in demanding situations.
Motivated to advance my expertise, I joined RCBC’s GOLD Program. This opportunity offered a dynamic learning platform that enhanced my knowledge and skills. The program fostered a collaborative environment where I worked alongside driven individuals, preparing me to excel and contribute meaningfully to a culture of growth and excellence.
Could someone with a different background do your job?
Yes, someone with a different background can do my job. The banking industry provides opportunities for anyone willing to work hard, persevere, and discipline themselves while gaining sufficient knowledge of the field.
While being an Industrial Engineer is an advantage—it equips you with the skills to quickly understand processes and terms—this profession is not exclusive to IE graduates. Others can succeed in this field as long as they are ready to learn and adapt to the demands of the banking industry. If you believe you’re qualified and prepared, there’s no reason not to pursue this career.
What's the coolest thing about your job?
What I love most about my job is the challenge. As a graduate of the GOLD Training Program, I had the opportunity to be assigned across the entire Operations Group, meet a lot of people, and interact with various individuals. I also gained valuable exposure by working alongside top management. I was able to present my ideas and share my knowledge with professionals in my field. The most fulfilling part, however, is when the people around you genuinely appreciate what you’ve accomplished. It’s this recognition and connection that makes all the hard work truly worthwhile.
What are the limitations of your job?
As a GOLD graduate assigned to the Trade Services Department and ASAD, I focus on improving current processes and ensuring efficient service delivery. Although I don’t usually work on weekends, I make it a point to complete all my tasks and backlogs within the week. However, unexpected issues sometimes arise, leaving me no choice but to work on weekends, which can disrupt my personal plans. This has been my experience so far, but I understand that challenges may vary, especially as I rotate to other departments. I remain ready to adapt and face whatever comes my way.
